The Irish singer Sinead O Conner converted to Islam from Catholicism, announced from her Twitter handle.

51 years old Irish singer is best known for her 1990 hit song Nothing Compares to U.

She singer made an announcement on Twitter and addressed her fans about the decision and told them how proud she is in converting towards Islam. She also announced an Islamic name that she has decided to adopt, and from now on the Sinead will be known as ‘Shuhada Davitt’,  it’s an Arabic name that means ‘Martyrs’.

She Tweeted;

“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’”

Last week the singer tweeted about her 1st Hijab gift that she received from her friend Elaine, and she said that she is not going to post any picture of her wearing Hijab.

However, three days later, Shuhada posted the picture wearing Hijab, the tweet reads; “Happy”,

She then shared a video with Irish Imam Shaykh Dr Umar al-Qadri in which the singer attempting to saying Islamic words like ‘Alhamdulillah’;

She also shared the video of her saying the Azaan (Call to prayer) and told her experience of trying Arabic for the first time;

“I got some pronunciation wrong because emotions took me from my page… but there’ll be hundreds of others onstage to come,”

She also showed gratitude towards her Muslim followers and fans for their kind and welcoming behaviour towards her.

The singer previously had some issues and complicated relationship with the Catholic Church. In 1992, she tore the photo of a pope in a live TV to protect against child abuse.
