UAE woman who saved her son in a car accident wakes up miraculously after a 27-year-long coma
Munira Abdulla, a woman from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) got terribly injured in a car crash back in 1991 and went into a coma as a result of severe brain injury. Munira was 32 years old at the time of that horrible event.
She was on her way to pick her son Omar Webair from school, who was four at that time. The car was being driven by her brother-in-law when it collided with a bus. Omar was in the back of the vehicle with Munira but was left unscathed as his mother cradled him in her arms just before the accident.
As a result, Munira got seriously injured and just gained consciousness this year in a German hospital.
Omar talked about the accident and about his mother’s progress in an interview with the UAE-based newspaper The National.
“I never gave up on her because I always had a feeling that one day she would wake up,” Omar told the newspaper on Monday.
“The reason I shared her story is to tell people not to lose hope on their loved ones; don’t consider them dead when they are in such a state,” Omar added.
“My mother was sitting with me in the back seat. When she saw the crash coming, she hugged me to protect me from the blow.”
‘She was calling my name’
Ms. Abdullah started to “make strange sounds” in her last week of treatment in Germany, her son said in the report.
Three days later, Mr. Webair woke up to the sound of his mother calling his name.
“It was her. She was calling my name. I was flying with joy,” Mr Webair said.
“For years I have dreamt of this moment, and my name was the first word she said.”
Ms. Abdulla is now able to communicate in a “reasonable manner” and is able to express where she is feeling pain.
She is currently back in Abu Dhabi, being treated at Nafraq Hospital.
“All those years, the doctors told me she was a hopeless case and that there was no point of the treatment,” Mr Webair said.
